Funding and Grant Support
All students admitted to the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences are provided a generous annual stipend of
$31,677 (2008-2009) for living expenses in addition to a full fellowship covering all tuition expenses. Students apply for admission to the Program of Study of their choice.
In addition to the central fellowships for tuition and stipend that support our pre-doctoral students, a number of graduate students are also supported by training grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Cancer Research Institute.
Housing
The Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences offers apartment housing to all full-time students for the Ph.D. training period. Rents paid by students are affordable and are considerably lower than those charged for comparable housing on Manhattan's upper East Side, leaving a reasonable amount for comfortable living in Manhattan.
Health Care
The Graduate School is dedicated to providing the finest medical care to students. Prior to matriculation, students must have a general health examination, which includes a physical examination, chest x-ray and basic laboratory tests, performed by their personal physical with the results forwarded to the Student Health Service. All full-time students enrolled in one of the Ph.D. degree-granting programs are covered by a comprehensive health plan. This includes access to Student Health Services, New York-Presbyterian Hospital clinics and physician referrals. Major-medical coverage for students and for eligible dependents is also available.
Neighborhood
Students live within a few blocks of classrooms and laboratories, on a self-contained campus that is part of a safe residential neighborhood on the prestigious upper East Side of Manhattan.
Numerous shops and restaurants in the immediate vicinity lend this neighborhood an aura of a small, well-defined community.
